Mt.Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro, at 5,895 meters, is Africa's tallest mountain, located in Tanzania (19,340 feet). It is the world's tallest free-standing mountain rise, meaning it exists independently of any mountain range. Kilimanjaro is made up of three cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. It is also known as a stratovolcano (a name for a very massive volcano comprised of ash, lava, and rock). The mountain's top and the tallest of the three volcanic structures is Kibo. While Mawenzi and Shira are no longer active volcanoes, Kibo is dormant and could erupt at any time. The last time it erupted, according to scientists, was 360,000 years ago. Uhuru, the Swahili word for "freedom," is the highest point on Kibo's crater rim.
