Lake Manyara
Although Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania's smaller safari parks, it contains a broad range of landscapes and animal populations that mimic those of many different sections of the country in miniature. It's a perfect stop-over between competing African wilderness sites Ngorongoro and Tarangire, and it's only 90 minutes from Arusha by car.
Lake Manyara can be explored in a single day, with hippos in the north and south of the lake, hundreds of bird species on the shores, including waders and migratory flamingos, and thousands of ungulates and distinct primates in the woodlands, including stately waterbuck, spiral-horned impala, black and white Colobus monkeys with their perpetually surprised white eyebrows; and numerous baboons grooming each other by the roadside in affectionate.
