Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park in northern Tanzania is not as well-known as the Serengeti or the Ngorongoro Crater as a safari holiday destination in Africa, but the Tarangire River's tributaries and swamps provide permanent water sources when surrounding shallow lakes dry up, attracting a migratory movement of up to 250,000 mammals with a more diverse mix of ungulates during the dry season from June to October.
An estimated 5,000 to 10,000 elephants are on the move in particular, making this a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Hulking buffalo, buxom zebra, dainty gazelles, observant eland, ostrich outriders, fringe-eared Oryx, and an array of attendant predators travel in and out of the park at various times. Spectacular are the season density wildlife populations, without a doubt, but the most spectacular attractions of a Tarangire Park nature trip are the park's giants.
